Pre-Canskate is a component of CanSkate. The Pre-CanSkate program is designed for participants who have never skated before or skaters who are not yet confident with their balance on the ice.

Pre-CanSkaters work on the essentials needed for to move safely and effectively on the ice, so they are prepared to move through the different learning stations: Balance, Control, and Agility. There are eight basic skills that will ready the skaters for Stage 1. Often before the end of the season, skaters will move on from Pre-CanSkate and join the CanSkate group. Coaches will make parents aware of when the child is ready to move to the CanSkate group. There is a top up fee associated with the move to CanSkate as the skaters will receive a longer and more in depth program.

The Pre-CanSkate learning stage is motivated through props and play. Skaters will learn through visual teaching aids and props with also the incorporation of music. As the skaters’ skills progress, the skaters will rotate through the learning stations.

All lessons are taught by NCCP certified professional coaches. Program Assistants are also there to guide and assist skaters.

Required equipment: CSA approved hockey helmets are MANDATORY and face masks are highly recommended for ALL CanSkate sessions (including Adults/Teens) until completion of CanSkate Stage 5.
